Question: What Cannot carbon date?

For radiocarbon dating to be possible, the material must once have been part of a living organism. This means that things like stone, metal and pottery cannot usually be directly dated by this means unless there is some organic material embedded or left as a residue.

Can hair be carbon dated?

They measured carbon-14 levels in various tissues from 36 humans whose birth and death dates were known. The researchers found that certain soft tissues — notably blood, nails and hair — had radiocarbon levels identical to the contemporary atmosphere.
