Question: What rating system does League of Legends use?

League of Legends has a ranking system called the League system, matching players of a similar skill level to play with and against each other. It comprises nine tiers which indicate the skill level of players. Players within each division are ranked using a system of points called League Points (LP).

What is League Elo rating?

Elo rating system was used in League of Legends ranked games prior to Season Three when the League system was introduced. The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players, originally designed for two-player games such as chess.

What rank is the average League player?

Gold IV Most of the players are ranked at Silver and Gold, and the average player is placed at Gold IV. I believe League of Legends achieved an optimal distribution in the low and mid tiers. Diamond is an elite group restricted to 3.7% of the player base, but note that a year ago it was limited to 2%.

Is gold a good rank in league?

Gold IV is definitely above average compared to the entire playerbase (that means if you add up unranked players, sub 30 accounts, level 200s who dont play ranked etc.) You can see this easily when fresh 30 accounts get placed into Gold IV and get murdered, and Gold IV is ~top 50% of ranked players.
